Welcome to Georgies Youth Centre (Barnstaple)

Georgie’s Youth Centre provides a unique & safe space for young people aged 11 – 19 from across the Barnstaple area. With a wealth of creative activities including, cooking, games, pool competitions, table tennis, music studio, outdoor games and just loads of fun. We currently welcome over a 100 young people each week and are working closely with young people to unlock their potential… Our youth club offers a number of targeted provisions to provide additional support to those who need it.

With a lack of social provision in the area, we aim to provide young people with opportunities to make constructive use of their leisure time, raise their aspirations and choose a positive, independent lifestyle. Facilities include a great space with lounge, music rooms, meeting rooms, space for arts and craft, a fully kitted kitchen where we young people get the opportunity to cook with fresh produce and a great outdoor space with the opportunity to play sports, games and BBQ.

Georgies has a chill out room designed for young people to chill, chat, hang out and have debates with young workers in a safe space that provides a tranquil space with comfy sofas ,blankets and cushions.

Our Kitchen at Georgies is the best place to get delicious home made grub.We regularly cook for our young people and have a varied menu to keep them guessing what's on the menu each week.All food is prepped and made by young people to help gain life skills and supported by a youth worker.

Our main room has pool tables, the latest consoles and air hockey, all free to use! We also have a dance hall with DJ booth and music rooms – where you can record & make music, practice on our instruments/ learn to DJ. Our kitchen is fully equipped for you to learn new skills or just practice becoming the next best chef!

Our Pool table is a centre feature at Georgies, where young people can chat,challenge each other at pool.we also hold Pool competitions against other centres to build rapport with other young people at other hubs.

Our recording studio is the perfect place to jam and record any new material you wish. It has state of the art equipment and a sound studio packed with musical instruments to explore whether you wanna learn the guitar or drums there is something for everyone.

The music room is a perfect place to rehearse for our annual talent shows based at Georgies and as part of an interactive experience ,or you could just bang the drums until your content!

The console area is part of the main room at Georgies,it has a console where you can challenge your mates or just chill and relax in the very own space of the centre.

Our outdoor space is used for sports,BBQ’s, socializing and theme evenings eg Geo Glasto where we bring the festival theme to georgioes we also hold beach themed evenings and other events such as halloween,fair week,thanks giving to name a few. Large Garden for sports, BBQ’s, Music, Sumo wrestling, Fire-pit, Gardening ,Themed evenings,summer fun activities.

We hold american dinner weeks each summer,where young people can experience the theme of hot dogs, shakes country dop wop music and dancing.

Our Sessions

No need to book! All our sessions cost £1 to attend, so just come along to a session. To become a member, you can sign up online or on arrival at our youth centre. If you would like to visit the centre before attending a session, be sure to get in touch!

  • Juniors

    Mondays 6:30 - 9:00 pm

    Years 7 & 8

    Our junior sessions are packed with lots of fun games and educational activities,open access evening young people can try out activities , chat,chill or just have fun fresh food is cooked by our very own young people with support and we have new foods each session to mix it up-to extend your food platelet.

  • Inters

    Tuesdays 6:30 - 9:00 pm

    Years 8, 9 & 10

    The Intermediate session is where young people tell us what they want to every so often in all sessions we do a poll of what young people would like to see at georgies we offer life skills,chat,pool matches theme evening just to name a few.

  • Seniors

    Thursdays 6:30 - 9:00 pm

    Years 9 to 19 years old

    Senior sessions are more chilled ,allowing young people to chill seek support if needed and do more in depth activities around the community around them and their health.

    Hiya, you can generally find me at the centre on Mondays. Seek me out for sports hall activities, CV Writing, film making and a spot of Bass playing in the music room.

    Administrator

    Hi, I’m Teresa the administrator for Bideford and Barnstaple. I am great at shuffling paper around and know lots about admin. However, I have lots to learn about youth workers but nothing ever surprises me! I work out of the front office and mainly work during the day. If you are ever in the centre and I am there, please pop your head in the door and say hi!

    Hi, I'm Laimei. I love being creative, so art and crafts are my thing. I enjoy experimenting, from painting on canvas to making bracelets to making pebble art though I do enjoy origami and papercraft the most.

    HI There, my name is Sophie. I am a Youth Work here at Georgie’s youth club. I got into youth work from going to my local youth club, I have been working with young people for 15 years. In 2016 I graduated from doing my Youth and community work degree. My favourite part of Youth Work is our open access sessions and meeting lots of young people, and within that I especially enjoy having a game of pool.

    Hi I’m Ester and I’m a youth worker at Georgies. I’ve been working with young people since I was a peer educator over twenty years ago. Seek me out for a good chat and someone to hear you out or to get some advice about relationships, gender, sexuality or sexual health. I also love cooking fresh food for everyone at Georgies, painting, making fires and hanging out in our garden.

I love any kinds of arts and crafts, especially DIY! In my free time, I love reading, painting, spending time with the people I love and finding beautiful new places to visit.

    Hello. I'm Bart and I’m the lead youth worker and building manager at Georgies. I moved to North Devon from Manchester but I am from the Netherlands originally. I have a Youth & Community degree and a few years experience working with young people and their families. I'm enjoying my time here in North Devon working for SPACE, meeting great people, surfing the ocean and exploring the moors. It’s a great way to spend my professional and private life.
