Bringing Music to Young People in Devon

The support for developing our Music offer has helped a great deal - it’s allowed us to be flexible with regards to the ‘types’ of young people we can support and where. For example, when a young band in Totnes have aspirations to become ‘gig ready’ we have been able to offer some additional hours to our Musical Youth Workers to support these young people in developing their music confidence. Similarly, we were able to respond to a request from Newton Abbot Youth Centre’s No Limits (Specialist SEND group) to run a music workshop for them in the half-term for young people.

We have been very proud of ‘The Music Zones’ provided as part of the well-being fundays. These have proved to be very popular and added value to the whole event. Finally, the delivery has hugely complimented and added value to the Music Peer Educators, funded by DAISI.

“At first I didn’t really know what to expect - but the youth workers just showed us what to do and I just gave it a go and enjoyed it.”

Music Sessions in Numbers

18 hours of music sessions delivered by Frankie Hebson (Music Leader) - working in Totnes with a young band - developing skills and confidence - the young people then performed at Hive Live in Exmouth.

2 hour Music Workshop for the No Limits Cafe in Newton Abbot.

45 hours of Music Zone sessions delivered across Teignbridge - Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot.

Coming Up

Between now and April 2022 we are putting on live music gigs in Newton Abbot and Totnes, which will be a mixture of established young musician bands and young people who want to gain some gig experience!

Overall the funding has been a really positive addition to our current delivery and it has really helped kick start an interest in music for young people. A huge thank you to Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs for their amazing support!

“It has been really great to be able to use my passion for music to help other young people have a go - hopefully I have passed on my passion for music to others.”
