Ryan Reflects on 1 year of Volunteering!
One of our volunteers, Ryan, has just hit 1 year volunteering at SPACE! We are incredibly grateful to Ryan for all his hard work and devotion, supporting both the young people and youth workers at the 100 Club - without volunteers like him, we couldn’t do what we do! He has kindly shared a reflection on his experience over the last year with us:
“What can I tell you about my time at 100 Club? Well let me take you back to the beginning. The first few weeks I was a complete rabbit in headlights, but slowly and surely I started noticing moments of pure joy and magic, and once I started finding my feet, I started building great relationships with the young people, and when they had broken up for the summer holiday I really felt like I was going to miss them. Over time I have been able to have great conversations and play fun games and continued to grow these great relationships.
Youth work is challenging at times, but it is also thoroughly rewarding. Those moments of magic whilst playing pool, or table football, or playing games, or giant skipping or whatever activity, really do fill your heart with joy. One of my first memories there was a young person was doing a 10 second challenge on the stopwatch on his phone, and he would absolutely delight with me whenever he succeeded. It was that moment I knew how valuable my roll was there. I have now been there a whole year (its flown by) and if anything, the magic is stronger than ever before, and I cannot see myself stopping volunteering anytime soon.
If you have a heart for young people and love to see them grow and prosper, then give volunteering a go. It really is very rewarding!”
