Chances Educational Support Services is a vibrant school dedicated to providing early intervention for students facing challenges in mainstream education. Chances is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to deliver English to Key Stage 3 and 4 students within an alternative provision setting, with a strong emphasis on literacy, reading, and communication skills.
We are particularly interested in teachers who understand the importance of rebuilding confidence in learning, especially for students who may have experienced disruption or barriers in mainstream education.
Part of this role will also involve supporting additional interventions for students catching up with their learning in other subjects in addition to their regular lessons, in a 1-1 capacity or very small groups. Staff work with the subject leads at the students' mainstream schools to create intervention packages that will support students in catching up on any lost learning and/or working beyond their current working levels.
Chances Educational Support Services invites applications from both secondary and primary trained teachers who share our enthusiasm for early intervention and are eager to contribute to a collaborative and innovative educational environment.
The successful candidate will maintain a strong awareness of safeguarding risks, complete all safeguarding training, follow school safeguarding policy and procedure to record, report, and share information, and work with external agencies as required in order to promote the safety and welfare of students.
What is the role?
English Delivery:
Deliver engaging and effective English lessons, supporting students to develop reading, writing, and communication skills. Inspire confidence in literacy and help students reconnect with learning.Literacy & Reading Development:
Promote reading across the provision, supporting students to improve fluency, comprehension, and enjoyment of texts.Individualised Interventions:
Plan and deliver targeted interventions in 1:1 or small group settings to support students in catching up with their learning.Collaboration with Partner Schools:
Work closely with mainstream schools to design intervention packages, ensuring continuity and supporting reintegration.Student Relationship Building:
Build strong, positive relationships with students, creating a safe and supportive learning environment that enables them to thrive.Curriculum Innovation:
Contribute to the development of an engaging and ambitious English curriculum tailored to the needs of students in alternative provision.Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
Track and monitor student progress, adapting teaching strategies to maximise impact.Classroom Management:
Create a structured, inclusive, and calm learning environment that promotes engagement and positive behaviour.
About You:
Qualified Teacher Status
Strong classroom experience, including managing challenging behaviour
Understanding of the Key Stage 3 / 4 English curriculum
Strong knowledge of literacy and reading strategies
Effective written and verbal communication skills
ICT literate
Experience of, or strong interest in, intervention strategies
Ability to differentiate for a wide range of learning needs
