About Chances
Chances is an Ofsted registered 'Good' school specialising in early intervention alternative provision. We support students who, for a range of reasons, are struggling to engage successfully within mainstream education, including those at risk of exclusion and those experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
Our provision operates across two models:
Model 1: Short-term placements where students remain on roll at their mainstream school, with a clear focus on stabilisation, intervention and successful reintegration.
Model 2: EBSA placements where students are on roll at Chances and receive a bespoke package of support designed to rebuild confidence, attendance and readiness for learning.
In both models, collaboration with families, mainstream schools and external professionals is central to our work. We pride ourselves on strong relationships, high-quality provision and a preventative, child-centred approach that sets us apart from other alternative provisions.
Chances is part of DYS Space Ltd. Our core values are:
Resilience
Respect
Opportunity
Space is an inclusive and learning organisation. Our employees should strive to achieve the best they can and must be committed to seeing the best in others. We value everyone's contribution and create safe spaces for exploration and growth.
Purpose of Job and Responsibilities
Chances is seeking a committed, empathetic and inspiring Maths and PE teacher to join our team for two terms. You will teach students in Years 7 to 11 who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream school or who are struggling to engage with education. The role is relational and child-centred, and requires the ability to engage young people, manage behaviour calmly and consistently, and help students rebuild confidence in themselves as learners.
Most of our students are working at lower attainment levels, so you will plan flexibly and differentiate well to rebuild foundations in Maths. On occasion you will teach students working at GCSE grades 5 to 7. You will also bring energy and enthusiasm to PE, using sport and physical activity to build confidence, teamwork and self-belief.
You will work as part of a small, close-knit team of teachers and youth workers, and alongside students' families and mainstream schools, to support each student's progress and, where appropriate, their successful reintegration into their long-term school placement.
About You:
Qualified Teacher Status
Strong classroom experience, including managing challenging behaviour
Experience of teaching Maths and/or PE to secondary-age students, or a primary trained teacher able to teach to this level
Sports coaching or PE-related qualification
GCSE English and Maths grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
Effective written and verbal communication skills
ICT literate
Experience of, or strong interest in, intervention strategies
Ability to differentiate for a wide range of learning needs
As part of our ambitions to improve equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications for this role from those who identify under any of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, which include race, age, disability, gender, religion or belief, and sexual orientation.
