Targeted Support

Our Targeted Support offers young people aged 11-19 one to one support with a youth worker to help them build strategies and solutions to challenges they may be facing

What is Targeted Support?

Targeted Support is a service we offer at Space Youth Services to support young people who may be experiencing challenges. This could be with the pressures of being a teenager, such as difficult relationships, feeling low, angry or confused about your future. These are all things that can be difficult to manage on your own, but with our targeted support, you/they don’t have to.

Our targeted support is an enquiry based system where you can either refer yourself (a young person) or you can refer a young person to receive 1-2-1 support with a youth worker. Our youth workers can offer encouragement, strategies and help you find solutions to support you through challenging times. Our Targeted Support can sometimes be one on one with a youth worker or in a specialist support group.

How to apply for support for a young person

Anyone, including young people themselves, parents, teachers, social workers, family practitioners, can submit an enquiry form for a young person aged between 11 and 19 to receive 1-2-1 support.

Please take a look at our enquiry guide linked to the button below to find out more about the targeted support we offer. If you would like to apply or apply for a young person, please fill in the form and email it to info@spacepsm.org or your local Space Youth Centres email address.

    • The Young Person needs to give consent

    • There is a clear outcome/purpose for the referral

    • The intervention will be time limited (roughly two months or 8 sessions)

    • Some activities may have a cost implication

    • Work will focus primarily on the young person (yet may involve family members & friends at times)

  • Your enquiry will be assessed by the team in your local youth centre. We will get in touch with you to let you know if your enquiry has been accepted.

If your enquiry is accepted, you will be invited to an initial 3-way meeting with the young person and the youth worker.

Where possible, this will be at a local youth centre. If this is not possible, then we can meet at an alternative suitable venue.

At this meeting, the youth worker will explain what the young person can expect and have a brief conversation about what their interests are and would they would might like to work on. This meeting can also happen online.

If the young person agrees, the youth worker will make a second appointment with them - this will be at the local youth centre. If the work is planned to be online, then arrangements for this will be made then as well.

Not all enquiries sent in will be accepted for targeted 1:1 work.
