Volunteer Mentoring

Our volunteer mentors walk alongside young people.

You will be there to support them on their journey in what can often be a varied and challenging time in life. Areas such as self confidence and relationship issues can be explored using a solution focussed, person centered and positive approach. Our mentoring service is designed to compliment our other youth work services, specifically targeted but also open access provision.

You will be provided with training specific to your role, will have relevant safeguarding training (level 2) and will undergo a thorough induction.

Examples of circumstances where a mentor may be a good choice include: a young person who is coming to the end of a targeted piece of work and just needs a little more support for a while, a young person who has been highlighted by another organisation for needing support around accessing an open access session or a young person who would like to build confidence using public transport. You will be a valued member of our youth centre teams, have access to resources and will be shown a range of methods and tools which will help you carry out your role.

This opportunity could appeal to you if you want to support young people, but don’t necessarily have the time/qualifications/ambition to become a youth worker ‘full time’. The time commitment is flexible enough to suit busy lives whilst remembering that young people tend to thrive on consistency so regular meetings will be encouraged.
